Bourgas Airport is the second largest airport in Bulgaria and is located in the south east of the country. It is just outside the city of Bourgas in the village of Sarafovo which itself has many good hotels and apartment complexes attracting lots of families each year. Flights to Bourgas have become very popular over the years with the growing tourism and many seaside resorts along the south east coast.

The airport changed to International status in 1970 with Bulgarian flights coming from 45 different airports. In 2011 work started on the new terminal 2 covering an area of 20,000 sq m designed to cater of almost 3 million passengers. The new state-of-the-art building was completed in 2013 and can easily be expanded if capacity increases in the future.

Domestic and international passengers arriving at Bourgas Airport can complete their journey by using the Bus Line No. 15 and the Taxi Piazza located outside the arrivals terminal at the airport. Depending on traffic it is only a 15 min taxi ride to Bourgas City. There is also a large parking lot beside the terminal with 199 spaces and it is open 24 hrs a day.

The most popular season for holidays in Bulgaria is from May right through to the middle of September when many cheap Bulgarian flights arrive with families from all over Europe. The Bulgarian Lev has dropped a little lately but there is still a great exchange rate for euro and sterling. As in every country the main coastal resorts can be overpriced but most of the seaside towns along the south east coast are very good value for money.

The main companies travelling to Bulgaria organise fantastic family packages that will cater for adults and children at an affordable price. This can be an all inclusive package that provides food, ice creams, soft drinks and local alcohol. Or you can go half board having breakfast and evening meal provided, all are very good value.

Along the coast from Bourgas there is an 8 km stretch of magnificent beach with safe bathing for children. The beaches offer sun loungers and parasols for your total relaxation and many water sports such as paragliding, pedalos, waterskiing, jet skiing and diving, for the more active holiday makers. Sunny Beach is very popular as is Nessebar and St. Vlas.

Further down the southern coast you can discover deserted beaches of beautiful white sand with a backdrop of forested national parks. Sinemorets is close to the Turkish border and has fabulous beaches, Sozopol is an ancient town steeped in history and culture and Strandja National Park is the fabulous place to enjoy bird watching and the wonderful wildlife. The coast has a lovely cool breeze in the evening night while the mountain area can get very hot and clammy, although the nights are usually fresh.

In the evening when the families want to relax the seaside resorts provide many wonderful restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian food, international cuisine and many British and Irish favourites so there is something for everyone. There are also outdoor bars with live music that will allow children to stay for a while in the evening and there are wine bars, discos and nightclubs for those who wish to relax, have a drink and maybe dance the night away.

The best prices for flights to Bulgaria can be arranged with airlines all over the UK and Ireland. Various flights leave from 13 airports in Scotland, Wales and England and there are direct flights from Dublin, Ireland. Whether it is a holiday for a couple, a family or a group of friends, Bulgaria is a great place to visit, relax and enjoy.
